Welcome! This Club was established in 1927 as a consequence of the subdivision of the Ranelagh estate. Originally, membership of this club was extremely exclusive one had to be an owner of land within the Ranelagh estate. It has only been in recent years that the membership eligibility has been extended to any local, Melbourne resident who has the best interests of the Club at heart. A short history of the Ranelagh estate and the Club has been published and is available from the office for $4.00

The Club is an incorporated association, and its directors (Committee members and Executive) are elected from the membership, Elections are usually held in October of each year. Sub-Committees are also formed for specific purposes e.g. tennis, yachting, social, etc, and are chaired by a member of the main Committee. Members with particular skills or interests are always welcome to participate. The Committee is responsible for the overall direction of the Club including budget allocations; Club management is responsible, within delegations, for the day-to-day operation of the Club.

Applications for membership are usually made through existing Club members who propose and second persons for membership. New residents, who may not know any existing Club members, are invited to discuss their application with a member of Committee or Club management. All applications for membership must be formally approved by Committee before membership is granted.

Your membership of this Club entitles you to the use of all the Club's facilities, The Club's By-Laws regulate the use of the facilities to ensure members safety and equity of access, Please read the By-Laws carefully, to ensure that you and your family, or guests that you may invite, do not breach our established codes of conduct. The Ranelagh Club is a modern sporting and recreational Club, with a full Club Liquor license for its Bar and Bistro, on the shores of Port Phillip Bay. The Clubhouse is open for member's use during office hours. Office hours are published in the bi-monthly newsletter and displayed on the notice board at the front of the clubhouse. The Bar and Bistro are in operation from Friday lunch through to Sunday night (unless the Clubhouse is privately hired) - the exact hours of operation are published in the newsletter and vary according to the season.

When the Bistro is not in operation in accordance with published hours, members are welcome to bring their own food for consumption in the Clubhouse and on the terrace. When the Bistro is in operation, members self-catering is restricted to the tennis cabana and yacht squadron BBQ catering facilities.

The Club holds a Full Club Liquor License and during hours of operation of the bar, members are prohibited, under the conditions of our license, from bringing alcohol to the Clubhouse and terrace. It is a requirement of this license that all member's guests to the bar and bistro are signed in by that member.

The Clubhouse is on some occasions hired out for private functions or used for major Club functions, On these days, the Clubrooms will not be available for members general use. Members are welcome to hire the premises, and we especially encourage corporate or midweek usage. Members also have the ability to introduce groups of up to 70 guests on a "non-exclusive hire" basis. Please discuss your needs with management, noting however that all proposed hiring's must be approved by the Committee.
